Bibliographic description
[4], XXVIII, 364; 111, [1] p. ; 8vo. Running number: 5395. Provenance: manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript inscription in red ink inside blank printed shield on title page: "C'est peu que l'apparence sans la réalité. D.D. scr.". Red ink flourishes above "Regiae Societati" on leaf pi2r and underlining "D. Durandus, socius" on pi2v. Marginal notes and corrections in red ink on p. XXVI, XXVIII ("Page 55. & suiv. Quêteur & Quêture, Lisez partour Questeur & Questure"), 20, 23, 60, 69, 230-231, and p. 87 (pt. 2). These notes and corrections in red ink were probably written by David Durand (1680-1763), Reformed minister and historian, the translator of this work, who has signed the title page "D.D. scr.". Binding: eighteenth-century sprinkled calf; gilt roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine, with gilt title label. Red sprinkled edges. Comb-marbled endpapers.
