Full description
Orientation: Portrait. Text substrate: Medium-weight cream laid paper. Ink/pigment: Black, carbon-based printing ink, annotations on front (left) fly leaf and title page in suspected iron-gall ink. Binding type: Drawn-on boards, raised supports, full stained dark-brown leather. Date of binding: Contemporary. Endleaves: Single fold of laid paper sewn onto cord supports, outer leaf used as paste down. Structure: 7 stations, link stitch, 5 raised cords and link stitch. Spine is semi-elliptical with shallow-rounded joint. All 5 cords are laced into the boards from inside and cut flush on outside. Sewn 2-up. Edges: Edges possibly gilt(or even silvered?) as polished and smooth and severely blackened/discoloured. Spine lining: No. Endbands: Red and white silk front beaded handmade endbands Bookmark: No. Boards: 1.2mm couched laminate millboard. Covering: Dark brown calf(?), untrimmed turn-in. Tooling - sides: Burgundy morocco label with gold text, gold double line above and below, single gold line down sides, gold dots. Blind double line around raised cords. Furniture: No. Enclosure: 1 dark brown book tape tie. Binding notes: Book plate inside left board.
