Provenance: Late eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century armorial bookplate: Revd. John Holmes, Gawdy Hall (Franks 15155) [i.e. Gawdy Hall, Harleston, Norfolk]. Early nineteenth-century (?) ink and pencil manuscript notes on v. 1 flyleaf and pastedown. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on v. 1 flyleaf in Norris's hand: Gawdy Hall 1938 3 vols 1/6. Binding: Eighteenth-century full calf over boards; gilt fillets; spine gilt; red leather spine labels with title: 'Rapin's Hist. of England'; sewn on five raised bands. Upper board of v. 2 detached.
