A present from the author" [i.e. catalogue code and note written by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. The author Theophilus Lobb was a nonconformist minister as well as a physician, which no doubt explains his connection with Sir Richard Ellys. Manuscript former shelfmark written in a nineteenth-century hand in pencil on front fly-leaf: "7:F:22". Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf; gilt double fillet border; gilt roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine, with gilt title label. Red sprinkled edges. Marbled endpapers.
