Provenance: Armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754): Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754; also found in Wimpole books acquired by his successors]. - Manuscript inscription on title page: : 'Jeff: Gilbert' [i.e. Sir Geoffrey Gilbert (1674-1726), Lord Chief Baron of the Court of Exchequer, whose library was sold at auction in Gray's Inn in 1728]. Binding: Eighteenth-century sprinkled calf, blind-panelled, black spine-labels, gold-lettered.
