Lot 1207 in Hoym library sale catalogue 'Catalogus librorum bibliothecae illustrissimi viri Caroli Henrici comitis de Hoym ...' (Paris, 1738). Bought by Sir Richard Ellys for 6 livres 2 sous according to his priced copy of the sale catalogue. Manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: eighteenth-century full calf; gilt double and single fillet border, with small gilt cornerpiece stamps; armorial centrepiece stamp of Karl Heinrich, Graf von Hoym (1694-1736) (Boyet and Du Seuil were Hoym’s binders); gilt single fillet along board edges; gilt roll pattern on turn-ins; gold-tooled spine with repeated stamp; burgundy leather label with gilt title on spine. All edges gilt. Swirl-marbled endpapers.
