Provenance: armorial bookplate (not listed in Franks) in each vol.: Chippendale arms on a mantle, arms of the Hobart family with a label of three points for the first son, 'The Honble. John Hobart Esqr' [i.e. John Hobart (1723-1793), the future 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire]. Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf (all water-stained, vol. 1 rear board with cup ring marks); sewn on three supports; five raised bands; gilt roll pattern along board edges; gold-tooled spines, with gilt title and vol. numbers; spine rebacked in sheepskin with original spine overlaid on all vols. Red sprinkled textblock edges.
