Binding: Nineteenth-century full calf over boards, single gilt fillet frame outside blind thick patterned and lined frame with fleuron cornerpieces, gilt armorial centrepiece of Thomas Penrice (1757 - 1816) (Stamp 2) comprising per pale indented argent and gules above motto "Tuto et celeriter"; single gilt line on board edges and turn-ins; five raised bands, gilt- and blind-patterned spine with gilt publication details tooled directly on to raised bands; green paper pastedown and made endleaf; gilt leaf edges. Blue marker. In book shoe. Pencil inscription on front endleaf of vol. 1 in the hand of Cecil Clarabut (the National Trust's first Libraries Adviser) on front endleaf: "Repaired at Cambridge, 1955". Vol. I lower board detached.
