Provenance: Louis-Jean Gaignat (1769 sale); Morgand et Fatout, sold to Baron Ferdinand for 20,000 francs in 1895. 1897 Waddesdon catalogue says this was bound for the comtesse de Flamarens. Binding: bound by Le Monnier in mid eighteenth-century French red morocco gilt with mosaic onlays of cream, citron, dark and light green and blue. Spine panles onlaid and with further mosaic decoration and gilding, including tools on turn-ins. Brown, pink and white headbands, gilt edges, blue silk markers, linings of pale blue watered silk. Signed 'Monnier' up the stem in the centre of the design and 'Monnier fecit' with a pallet bottom centre of each cover.
