Provenance: armorial spade shield on a mantle bookplate (Franks 13095) on front pastedown: 'Hudson Gurney' (Gurney quartering Barclay, Hudson and Barker) [i.e. Hudson Gurney (1775-1864), Norfolk antiquarian, who lived at Keswick Hall, Norwich. His books passed to the Norfolk and Norwich Library, and some of them were then bought by R. W. Ketton-Cremer of Felbrigg Hall in 1949]. Inscribed on front free endpaper: "R.W. Ketton-Cremer Felbrigg 1941" [i.e. Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)]. Manuscript note in pencil in the hand of Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer on rear pastedown. Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf (front board almost detached); sewn onto five supports; gilt roll pattern along board edges; rebacked (nineteenth-century) in gold-tooled calf, with Hudson Gurney's crest at head of spine; nineteenth-century endpapers. Blue sprinkled textblock edges.
