Eighteenth-century manuscript inscription on front pastedown: "C.&.P./" [i.e. the "collated and perfect" mark of the bibliophile Thomas Rawlinson (1681-1725)]. Eighteenth-century manuscript code on front endleaf: "R[?]:" Front endleaf torn; manuscript inscription beside tear on verso of front endleaf in hand of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Ellys: "Rochester [underlined]" [i.e. catalogue code and title note for anonymous works entered by Mitchell in his catalogue of Elly's library]. Manuscript marginal notes throughout (e.g. pp. [4], 11, 18). Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf over boards, single gilt fillet border and gilt fleurons at the corners. Gilt roll pattern along board edges. Five raised bands; gold tooled spine with gilt title tooled directly on to spine. Endbands. Sewn on five supports, three laced-in. Pastedown and endleaves. Red sprinkled edges.
