Ephemera: loosely inserted in vol. 8: (1) eighteenth?-century manuscript copy of notes, 5 May 1640, by Sir Henry Vane (1589-1655); (2) "Prologue" by F.P. Delme Radcliffe, 1854. Provenance: armorial bookplate (after 1754): Philip, Earl of Hardwicke. [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754. Also used in books acquired by his successors]. Binding: eighteenth-century sprinkled, polished sheep over boards on six raised cords, gilt and blind fillet on spine, late eighteenth-century brown and olive-green spine labels, triple blind fillet and border roll on covers, gilt floral roll on board edges, red and brown sprinkled edges. Spine title: Rushworth’s Collections 8. Front hinge is cracked revealing gilt fillet on re-used board edge.
