Summary
This is one of a series of six grisailles panels (a grisaille is a painting in shades of grey and is used to imitate sculpture) painted by Vincenzo Valdre (1740-1814). This painting depicts Greek and Roman references. The grisaille has a pink background and is located on the north wall of the Dining Room in Calke Abbey. This panel has three putti (cherubs). The putto (a cherub) on the left of the panel is winged, is seated and is playing a trumpet. The putto in the middle of the panel is also seated and has a sash and is paying a lyre. The putto to the far right of the panel is seated, has wings, a sash and is playing a pair of drums with a drumstick in each hand.
