Summary
This is one of a series of six grisailles panels (a grisaille is a painting in shades of grey and is used to imitate sculpture) painted by Vincenzo Valdre (1740-1814). This painting depicts Greek and Roman references. The grisaille has a pink background and is located on the north wall of the Dining Room in Calke Abbey. This panels has four putti (cherubs). The putto (a cherub) on the left of the panel has a sash and is carrying an urn. The putto next to him is carrying a putto which has a sash and is carrying a chalice in his right hand. The putto on the far right of the panel is carrying the previous putto and this putto has wings. On the right hand edge of the panel there is an urn.
