Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Grey Shorthorn Bull in a Cowshed by J. Harris (fl.1861-1884), signed lower left, 'J. Harris 1861'. A shorthorn bull standing in a shed, a manger on the left with a turnip in it. A leather head collar is attached by a chain to a weight. The bull is shown side view, facing left, his coat white with grey mottled shading. A small window is on the right, the floor is laid bricks.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
