Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Grey Carriage Horse in a Stable by Edwin Cooper (Bury St Edmunds 1785 - Norwich 1833), signed, lower right: Edwin Cooper Pinx, 1827. A grey carriage horse in a black harness is shown in a stable. The horse faces left, an open wooden door behind it. In front of it is a groom's livery, a wooden pail and horse cloth. Its tail is docked and its rump slightly dappled.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
