Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lakeside Scene with Horseman by George Cuitt, the Elder (Moulton 1743 – Richmond 1818) or George Cuitt, the Younger (Richmond 1779 - Masham 1854). A lakeside scene with two horsemen riding along the lake shore. Three dogs are playing near the water's edge. Beyond the horsemen, the track leads to a cottage with thatched roofs. In the left foreground is a high brownish tree, green trees surrounding the lake.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
