Summary
Portrait miniature, oil on porcelain, Elizabeth Hamilton, Dowager Countess of Warwick (1721-1800) by British (English) School, but possibly by Elizabeth Walpole (fl.1795). 1795. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of an old lady, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a black hooded cape over a white lace bonnet. Blue eyes, grey hair, pale complexion. Sky background. An inscription inside the frame reads, 'Portrait of Elizabeth Hamilton, Countess, dowager of Warwick. Painted from life when she was in 75th year of her age. E.W. scripsit' Elizabeth Hamilton was Lady Frances Harpur's mother, and wife of Charles 1st Earl of Warwick. (House Guide, last revised 1996).
