Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Hon. Georgiana Peachey, Lady Greville (1752-1772), after George Romney (Dalton-in-Furness 1734 – Kendal 1802). A half-length portrait, turned slightly to the left, head turned and gazing to the right, has her arms folded and wears grey gloves and a black cloak. Her white powdered hair is covered by a white cap and pink ribbon. Georgiana married Lord Greville, later 2nd Earl of Warwick and Baron Brooke, in 1771. She died of consumption, a few days after the birth of their son George on her first wedding anniversary, aged 19. This is a nineteenth-century copy of the original in the Courtauld Gallery (Lee Bequest) which was probably painted around the time Georgiana Peachey married George, Lord Greville. It was Romney's first aristocratic commission and may have been completed posthumously, after Lady Greville’s death.
