Summary
One of two picture frames (from an original set of eight commissioned to frame a set of royal and Coventry family portraits), carved and parcel-gilded, supplied by William Linnell in 1760, reduced in size and regilded.
Provenance
Supplied by William Linnell to the 6th Earl of Coventry for the Saloon at Croome Court, 1760; by descent at Croome Court; sold from Croome in 1960 and acquired (as a set of eight) by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; deaccessioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1978; these two purchased by the National Trust from Patrick Jefferson, London, 2016.
