Summary
An enamel and gold brooch, c. 1830, of oblong shape, mounted with a rectangular-shaped Swiss enamel plaque on copper depicting two maidens, in a gold frame with scrolling decoration. Marked Berne, Schwitz on the back of the plaque. The brooch has been heavily restored. It is accompanied by a tag label stating 'Brought from Switzerland for our mother by Alfred Smith'.
Provenance
Calke Abbey and contents transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
