Summary
A pair of mummified infant crocodiles with a bundle of bandage and twine wrappings, which may contain a third crocodile. The smaller crocodile is fully wrapped in a light brown bandage. The larger crocodile is mostly unwrapped, with a coarse twine rope wrapped around the middle. Probably purchased from the crocodile mummy pits at el-Maabde for Sir Vauncey on Saturday 26th February 1870, as noted in Dr Workman's journal.
Provenance
Calke Abbey and contents transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
