Summary
Etching on paper (hexagonal), The Adoration of ther Magi (after Raphael) by Nicholas Chaperon (Châteaudun 1612 - Lyon 1654/55), 1649. One of a series of 28 en suite from the publication: Sacrae Historiae Acta a Raphael Urbin in Vaticanis xystis ad picturae miraculum expressa (Raphael's Bible) from the series of frescos painted by Raphael in the Logge, Vatican. Printed on lower margin 'R.V.I' to left and 'N.C.F' to right. Plate number 60 A verse from Matthew II is printed in the centre and the engraving illustrates it, the three kings bringing incense, gold and myrrh: Procidentes Magi Adorauerunt eum, & apertis thesauris obtulerunt ei aurum, thus, et myrrham.
