Summary
Aquatint, coloured, The French and British fleets - The Battle of Groix. A large naval engagement which took place off the island of Groix on the Biscay coast of Brittany on 23 June 1795 during the French Revolutionary Wars (after Richard Livesay) by J. Wells (d.1791).One of a pair of coloured aquatints by J. Wells after R. Livesay published by the latter in 1796. The two prints show position of the French and British fleets, June 1795, before the commencemant of action (CAL/D/128a). Both are in heavy ebonized and gilt frames with a label; 'Presented by/LADY HARPUR CREWE/May 1906'
