This invalid carriage would carry one passenger who used the tiller to steer, with an attendant on foot pushing from behind. Carriages of this type allowed the elderly or infirm to take the air around the garden.
Summary
Invalid Carriage built by an unknown coachbuilder. Invalid Carriage (three wheels) designed to be pushed by an attendant. This invalid carriage is sprung on elbow springs and has two large wheels behind and a small wheel attached to a steering handle in front. A turned wooden handle on metal mounts is fitted behind. The tub chair has a curved back and sides made of wooden struts and covered with dark blue cloth. A fitted seat cushion is also covered in blue cloth and has a hinged lid in the seat below. Painted black livery with red lining, narrow moulding around the back.
