Summary
Oil panting on panel, Brinsley Ford in the Venetian Library, by Alec Cobbe (b.1945), 1989. A portrait of Sir Brinsley Ford (1908-99) seated in the Library at Wyndham Place. Ford contemplates, holding a pair of reading glasses to his chin, while seated in an armchair. He supports a large book illustrated with plates. Bronzes are arranged on the window sill above his desk piled with books. The walls are hung with pictures, which then included the prized group of Punchinello drawings by Domenico Tiepolo.
Provenance
Commissioned by Brinsley Ford before 1989 and by descent to Augustine Ford. Accepted under the Cultural Gifts Scheme by HM Government from Augustine Ford and allocated to the National Trust for Osterley, 2023.
