The sitting took place on the afternoon of 30 October in the artist’s Tite Street studio (see Ford et al 1998, pp. 108-9).
Provenance
One of a series of drawings of Sir Brinsley Ford commissioned by Villiers David from Augustus John, October 1941; purchased from the artist by Sir Brinsley Ford (£30); thence by descent to Augustine Ford. Accepted under the Cultural Gifts Scheme by HM Government from Augustine Ford and allocated to the National Trust for Osterley, 2023.
