Summary
A mahogany side table (adapted from a card table), English, circa 1715-1740, the exterior surface of the original card table has been adapted forming a rectangular top with lobed front corners, to the underside are candle stands and counter wells. On a rectangular base, the legs with lappet tops and pad feet. There are marks to the rear sides of the table top where hinges have been removed, the extending action has been fixed in place, the table top has been pinned into its current position.
Provenance
Date and method of entry to the house unknown. The National Trust took over the management of Carlyle's House in 1936.
