Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Loughwood Meeting House by Carel Victor Morlais Weight (London 1908 - 1997), inscribed, bottom left, Carel Weight; 1990. The artist wrote: " Loughwood Meeting House, built in the seventeenth century, was a Baptist chapel hidden in a wood in fear of persecution. Now the wood is gone - but I felt an atmosphere of the past in spite of the beauty of the surrounding country side. For this reason I introduced a ghostly grave-digger." Loughwood Meeting House, near Axminster, Devon, long disused, was acquired by the National Trust in 1969.
