Summary
A joined oak mule chest, probably Gloucestershire, late 17th century. The hinged lid with moulded edge and locators at either end above a front with upper frieze carved with 'S'-scroll and two edge-moulded panels of 'dragons' with stylised arrow tongues. The panels spaced by a muntil carved with a stiff leaf above a long drawer with geometric mouldings forming panels. The bottom rails and stiles carved with meandering foliage.
Provenance
Belonged to Mrs Engelhart's great grandmother, Phoebe Sargent. Given with the property by Bertram Philipps in 1943.
