Caption
This is a posthumous portrait, painted in the year of her untimely death, of Esmé Jenner, daughter of Sir Walter Jenner, 2nd Bt (1860 - 1948) who left Lytes Cary to the National Trust. She is mounted on the horse, 'Welshman' on top of a hill, looking in profile to the left. She was Master of the Sparkford Vale Harriers from 1931 to 1932. Fox hounds gather in the foreground on the right and on the other side of the hill to the right of the horse. A large tree, of which only the trunk and a few branches can be seen, perhaps symbolically, frames them behind on the right.
