Summary
A mahogany tester bedstead, English, circa 1780. The foot posts reeded and carved with leaves, the tester with moulded cornice and domed interior; with red damask valance, curtains, tassels, and white lining with needlework coats of arms. Damask covered head board, valances and coverlet, hair mattress.
Provenance
The bed is from Burton Pynsent, near Curry Rivel (the house given by Sir Walter Pynsent to the Earl of Chatham). Given as part of the bequest of Lytes Cary Manor and other freehold lands, tenements and property and chattels from Sir Walter Kentish William Jenner, in his will dated 14th May 1948.
