Summary
A cocus wood side table, English, circa 1680. The top with canted outset corners above a pair of frieze drawers and raised on six S scrolled legs tied by bowed stretchers, bun feet (probably later).
Full description
The table is veneered with cocus, a hard, dense wood with a dark brown heart and yellow sapwood, often referred to, erroneously, as laburnum. It was imported from the West Indies and was often referred to as West Indian ebony. Ccocus was used as a cabinet wood in Britain between 1660-1740. (James Weedon, February 2020)
