Full description
One of a pair of breech-loading “Queen-Anne-type” flintlock pistols, c1725, by John Walker, London (active1717-1748). Turn-off iron barrel of cannon-form with turned mouldings and muzzle ring and engraved at breech. Separate engraved barrel tang, with trefoil finial. Length 18.7cm. Calibre 16mm. Iron boxlock frame formed with integral breech, and with a side mounted flintlock action. The underside is stamped with London Gunmakers Company proof marks and the makers mark, IW under a star. Signed beneath the pan, WALKER, LONDON. The frizzen spring mounted under the flashpan. Walnut grip with bulbous pommel, inlaid with silver wire and dot-work, and with a carved apron to barrel tang. Silver furniture comprising: grotesque lions-head pommel cap and escutcheon. Scroll-shaped trigger and separate steel trigger guard. Overall length: 32.4cm
