Summary
Printed illustration for Jemima Puddle-Duck's Painting Book (published August 1925), coloured in watercolour by Beatrix Potter. The book should have been published in 1924, but in a letter dated 30 December 1924 Beatrix states, 'No new book; should have been a painting book, re-drawn from Jemima, but the engravers were slow.'. This is a printed and hand coloured version of the original ink drawing HIL.RP.374. Jemima enters the shed and the fox closes the door behind her. There is an inscription by Beatrix Potter, 'rather too green. Will the engraver please compare and be guided by the picture in 'Tom Kitten ptg book' of Jemima and fox? I have got this rather messy and it won't wash out.'
