Summary
Manuscript exercise book ('The Marvel' exercise book, with grey-green cover), titled on the front cover in Beatrix Potter's hand 'Demerara Sugar - first copy + odds + ends'. The exercise book dates from 1910, being dated by Beatrix Potter as 25 December 1910.Reading from the front of the exercise book - this is a copy in Beatrix potter's hand of the poem 'Rillory-Rill' by Henry Newbolt, about the 'Grasshoppers Green Herbarian Band. Reading from the back of the book - 14 pages of a draft of Demerara Sugar, Chapter 14 of The Fairy Caravan (from page 105 of the 1992 paperback edition). This draft includes characters who do not appear in the published version - two rabbits with an umbrella, Diggory Delvet, Benjamin Bunny and his wife.
