Summary
Drawing in black ink for the privately printed edition of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. This is an alternative drawing which was not used, HIL.R.1.17 being used instead. Peter runs away, rounding the corner of a cold frame. In the front right corner is a group of potted geraniums. The gables of a house (Lingholm?) with trees behind are visible over the garden wall in the background. Mr McGregor's hand, brandishing a garden rake, enters to the right of the picture. Corrections have been made in white paint to the treetop behind the house and to the potted geraniums bottom right. Contains Beatrix's handwriting. See also HIL.R.1, the manuscript into which this illustration was originally attached; HIL.R.1.17, the final version of this illustration which was chosen in preference.
