Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Dodo Terrace, Mount Stewart, by Liam Thompson (b. 1956), inscribed, bottom right: Liam Thompson and signed and inscribed with title on back, circa 1989/90. A view of the Dodo Terrace at Mount Stewart, looking over the Italian Garden to the south front of the house. The Dodo Terrace by the south facade of te hosue was constructed and paved in 1925. Its theme of animals and the Ark relates to the Ark Club which Lady Londonderry established in her London house during the First World War: she gave its members the names of real and legendary bird and animals. In Liam Thompson's phrase, the Dodo Terrace is an 'evocation in concrete' of her circle of friends.
