Summary
A polished wooden box containing a chemistry set with inset, hinged lid and lock and key (NT 22324.2). Lock with inlaid brass escutcheon. Base cracked near front edge. Pale green label with double black lined border and black lettering filling the inside of the lid. Label reads; GRIFFIN'S / CHEMICAL LABORATORY / A PORTABLE COLLECTION OF THE MOST APPROVED / APPARATUS, PREPARATIONS, AND TESTS, / FOR PERFORMING / AN EASY AND INSTRUCTIVE COURSE OF CHEMICAL EXPERIMENTS. / ARRANGED BY JOHN J. GRIFFIN, / IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EXPERIMENTS DESCRIBED IN THE NINTH EDITION OF HIS / CHEMICAL RECREATIONS. / SOLD AT GRIFFIN'S CHEMICAL MUSEUMS, 53, BAKER STREET, PORTMAN SQUARE, LONDON; / AND 40 BUCHANAN STREET, GLASGOW. Underneath bottom border is written; BRADBURY AND EVANS PRINTERS, WHITEFRIARS. Box inside divided into sections. Back has nine deep pockets, left side three pockets, and centre one large pocket. Right side has two rows, one with four pockets and far right with one small and one long vertical pocket.
