Summary
Walnut 'backstool' chair, late 19th/20th Century. The sunk square caned seat is supported on twist-turned H and rear stretchers and front legs, the latter on ball feet and joined by a raised front stretcher carved with stylised scrolls centering on a thistle. The rear legs on ball feet rise to form twist-turned uprights with turned finials flanking the cresting rail carved with acanthine scrolls around flowerheads. The framework for the cane panel below is decorated with a criss-cross pattern as are the seat rails. The junctions for the back rails are hexagonal. See W.F.66.
