Summary
Winged arm chair, Queen Anne, walnut. The squared tapering padded seat is supported on shaped legs, those at the front cabriole with a moulded crease leading to the toe of the squared foot. Above the plain rear legs the padded back rises to a serpentine top rail, the wings leading into the horizontally scrolled-outward arms. Covered in wool needlework by E.G. Lister. Loose seat squab and loose cushion. Large armchairs with padding and upholstery, to back seat and arms start to develop 'wings' here with the Restoration, the wings extending downwards to join the arms by c1680. In contemporary inventories these are described as 'easie' chairs.
