Caption
Rather than an ostentatious Grand Tour portrait in the manner of Batoni, this is an honest portrayal of a young gentleman, complete with dog and gun in his check hunting clothes. It was probably done by a local artist. Sadly, ‘Jack’, second son of William I Lenox-Conyngham (1792-1858) of Springhill died of typhoid fever at the early age of twenty. This may have been painted after his death.
