Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, The Rt. Hon. John Staples MP (1736-1820), attributed to Charles Robertson (Dublin 1759 – Dublin 1821). c.1790. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a dark blue coat with brass buttons, cream waistcoat, voluminous white neck-line. Brown eyes, short powdered wig, pale complexion, freely modelled with blue strokes. Brown and blue sky background. Inscribed on reverse: Rigt (sic) Hon. John Staples of Lissan. Father of Sir Thomas Staples of Mrs Charlotte Lenox Conyngham.
