Summary
Clock mechanism, brass, steel, ormolu with fleurs de lys between numerals. Incribed with John Birnie, Templepatrick. Month going, striking longcase clock movement by John Birnie, Templepatrick. Circa 1720. 2Train 4 pillar movement with anchor escapement and outside count wheel hour striking on a bell, with hoop wheel locking. 14-inch square gold-lacquered brass dial with wheatear border round the edge and around the chapter ring. Twin cherub and crown spandrels. Chapter ring with Roman numerals, Arabic five minute figures “plume of feathers” half hour marks and quarter hour circle. Signed at VI “Jon. Birnie Templepatrick”. Elaborately engraved dial centre with thistles, roses and leaves on aa matted ground. Ringed seconds dial, ringed winding holes, simple ½ ½ moon phase indication with lunar calendar and square calendar aperture within the dial centre Steel hands.
