Full description
All-metal flintlock pistol produced for the Ordnance in Birmingham for issue to the Highland regiments. Following the traditional Scottish all-metal pistol design, many were produced by John Waters of Birmingham (active 1766-1788). Round iron barrel with a raised flange to the breech. The ramrod missing. Barrel length 18.8cm. Calibre 15.5mm. Hollow all-metal brass stock, with pommel in the form of an inverted crutch. The pommel with indecipherable mark. Rounded stud trigger of iron. Iron flintlock, the curved lockplate of flat section with bevelled edges. The top jaw-screw pierced. Fitted internall with a horizontally acting sear, which penetrates the lockplate to engage the breast of the cock for full cock. Retained to the stock by 2 side-nails. Overall length: 30.5cm
