Full description
One of a cased pair of fine quality percussion (converted from flintlock) duelling pistols by McCormick, Belfast c1800. Probably Robert McCormick, gunmaker, Belfast and Dublin. Octagonal iron barrel, slightly swamped at the muzzle, and engraved M.CORMICK, BELFAST. Silver blade fore-sight. Retained to the stock with 2 barrel-slides, each with silver escutcheons. Converted to percussion by drum and nipple method. The ramrod missing. Barrel length 9.2cm. Calibre 17mm. Walnut stock with strongly curved chequered grip. Engraved silver furniture comprising; pommel cap, trigger guard of French form with a pineapple finial, and 2 ramrod pipes. Set or hair trigger. The fore-end cap missing. Sidelock, converted to percussion, of flat form with bevelled edges, the plate engraved and inset with a gold oval containing the signature McCORMICK. Sliding safety catch behind the hammer. Retained to the stock by 1 side-nail. Overall length: 40.5cm
