Summary
White Carrara marble, Chimneypiece with Mask of Bacchus with festoons of Vines, Long Gallery, Wimpole Hall. White Carrara marble chimney-piece, frieze decoration with mask of Bacchus and festoons of vines, probably carved by Peter Scheemakers, who worked on three of the monuments in the church between 1759 and 1770. The wooden overmantel may be attributed to Sefferin Alken. Polished steel fire surround with 3 raised bosses, and iron grate with 3 bars and 2 finials, C19.
Provenance
Part of the Bambridge Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Mrs Elsie Bambridge (1896-1976)
