Summary
An oval marble cistern, or wine cooler, on rectangular base, on an early 21st century concrete plinth. Similar to a series of plates in James Gibbs's Book of Architecture of 1728. It is likely to have been designed by him to stand under a dining-room buffet. Its weathered surface is a reflection of the time it has spent as a garden ornament.
Provenance
Part of the Bambridge Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Mrs Elsie Bambridge (1896-1976).
