Summary
8 day, striking longcase clock in mahogany case, by George Stephenson, Warminster, c.1830. 2 train, 4 pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack striking. White-painted break-arch dial, with rocking automata ship in the arch. Arabic numerals and five-minute figures at quarters. Painted and gilded floral spandrels. Seconds dial and semi-circular calendar aperture in dial centre. Signed- G. Stephenson, Warminster. Gilt brass, pierced and decorated hands. Mahogany case with fluted casing and 3 brass finials to hood, flanked by Corinthian capped fluted columns. Square plinth with feet. Some boxwood stringing and inlay. Note - the dial has a false plate signed- Walker Birmingham. George Stephenson is recorded as working in Warminster c.1830.

Part of the Bambridge Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Mrs Elsie Bambridge (1896-1976)
