Summary
A large oak dome-topped travelling chest, English, mid- to late 18th century. Of dovetailed construction. The domed top formed with boards, and with board ends. Fitted with a long brass hasp fixed with brass studs. The front with brass lockplate. The sides each with a brass handle and backplate. With a base moulding and bracket feet and brass castors.
Provenance
Listed in the Inventory taken at Wimpole in 1965 in the Library (p. 47). Date of acquisition not recorded. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Elsie Bambridge (1896 - 1976).
